I enjoyed art in my school days, but chose music as my profession. It was on long tours with the BBC Philharmonic that I began to draw and paint again. Oil, watercolour and charcoal are my preferred medium.

Chris Evans is a British painter known for his evocative, atmospheric landscapes that explore the emotional character of place. Although he showed a natural talent for art from a young age, Chris pursued a successful career as a musician, performing for many years with the BBC Philharmonic. It was the long stretches of travel and quiet moments between concerts that tempted him back to his sketchbooks, and ultimately rekindled his commitment to painting.

Working primarily in oil, with additional studies in watercolour and charcoal, Chris builds his landscapes through layers of texture, tone and expressive mark-making. His paintings often sit at the edge of abstraction, allowing form to emerge gradually from shifts of light and colour. The result is work that feels contemplative and immersive—landscapes shaped not only by what is seen, but by what is remembered.

His subjects range from rugged hillsides to soft winter fields and atmospheric townscapes, each infused with a deep sense of mood. There is a musicality to Chris' compositions: rhythm in his brushwork, cadence in his tonal shifts, and a quiet intensity that mirrors the discipline of his artistic and musical background.

Based in Shropshire, Chris continues to expand his body of work, bringing a distinctive voice to contemporary British landscape painting. His paintings resonate with collectors for their emotional depth, subtle drama and the unmistakable atmosphere that threads through his practice.
