Sophie Harding is a British painter whose work celebrates the quiet poetry of everyday life. Now based in far West Cornwall, she paints still lifes, interiors, and coastal scenes that capture small, joyful moments with a sense of calm and intimacy. Her compositions are characterised by bold yet harmonious colour palettes, simplified forms, and a gentle observational quality that invites viewers into her world.
Having worked full-time as an artist since 1993, Sophie has spent the last several years focusing primarily on painting and printmaking. Her original works draw inspiration from her surroundings—seasonal fruit and flowers, collected objects in her home, freshly caught fish from Newlyn, or a morning walk through a Cornish garden. Working mainly from life and sketches, she distills these everyday encounters into compositions that are both familiar and quietly uplifting.
Sophie’s work has been exhibited in galleries across the UK since 1986, including Liberty London, New Craftsman Gallery, Padstow Gallery, Birdie Fortescue, The Byre Gallery, Square Gallery, and Gallery Tresco.
Influenced by artists such as Milton Avery, Mary Fedden, William Scott, Klaas Gubbels, Etel Adnan, Pierre Bonnard, and Henri Matisse, Sophie creates paintings that offer a sense of stillness, joy, and escapism. Her work is an invitation to slow down and appreciate the beauty found in life’s simplest details.
Sophie Harding’s original paintings are now represented by the Soden Collection.
