Soden Collection was founded in 2017 by Jonathan Soden with the aim of creating a gallery that combines strong curatorial vision with a highly personal approach to collecting.
From the outset, the gallery has worked closely with emerging and established British artists, presenting a carefully curated programme of contemporary paintings, sculpture and ceramics. This focus on quality, context and long-term relationships quickly established Soden Collection as a trusted destination for contemporary art in Shrewsbury and beyond.
Alongside its contemporary programme, Soden Collection is also known for sourcing works by important modern masters, including David Hockney, Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon and Tracey Emin. This dual focus allows clients to place contemporary work within a broader art-historical framework, whether they are building a new collection or refining an existing one.
Art consultancy sits at the heart of the gallery’s work. Soden Collection advises private clients, interior designers and corporate collectors, offering a discreet, independent and highly tailored service. Every project begins with conversation — understanding a client’s taste, space, budget and long-term goals — before carefully sourcing and recommending artworks that genuinely belong within their collection.
Whether acquiring a single piece or developing a collection over time, we work closely with our clients at every stage: identifying artists, sourcing specific works, advising on placement and context, and supporting confident, informed decision-making. The emphasis is always on clarity, trust and building collections that feel personal, considered and enduring.
